Victoria School of Innovation and Inquiry - Vancouver Island School of Innovation and Inquiry or VISII (pronounced vee-sigh) is Victoria’s only middle school using the inquiry learning model. VISII is closely modelled on the Pacific School of Innovation and Inquiry (PSII).
Pacific School of Innovation and Inquiry - helps learners to develop unique inquiry pathways that act as the umbrella for projects and other learning activities. These activities comprise a learner’s personalized, interdisciplinary curriculum.
Island Discovery - publicly funded distributed learning program
Saplings Outdoor Program - K-3 nature school that fosters students’ lifelong connection to place by using the materials freely available in their local environment
SelfDesign - distance/distributed learning school
SEEC - a place-based publicly funded school on Saturna Island - grades 10-11
TES - Transforming Education Society - supports K to 12 learning institutions which provide the option of a democratic, personalized and self-determined education
IDEAS - an alternative education program for secondary students grades 8 to 12, offered through Island Discovery Learning Community. IDEAS supports a community of youth by providing 2 days a week of in-person programming with a teacher as well as adult mentors. IDEAS partners with TES Theatre to provide a total of 4 days a week of in-person learning in a community of teens with teachers.
TES Theatre - Believes in facilitating students' love of musical theatre through a profound respect for youth and their ability to lead, supporting true collaboration and experiential learning across multiple ages, and ensuring a safe and supportive community space.
Gibson’s Heritage Farm - a family and friend run farm school devoted to ecosystems and sustainable food production and multigenerational, community based education
Fresh Air Learning - a registered charity that connects children to nature through play, exploration, and hands-on creation and discovery
Soaring Eagle Nature School - nature-based learning programs throughout Vancouver, B.C and the Lower Mainland
Agile Learning Centers - intentional culture supporting self-directed learning reinforced by agile management tools
Education In Transformation - Education in Transformation (EDiT) is a film platform that shares stories and ideas from the Self-Directed Education (SDE) movement.
Sudbury Valley School - we respect the ability of every student, regardless of age, to plan and carry out their daily activities. We do not encourage students to follow particular paths, nor do we provide assessments of their performance.
Heartwood Learning Community (HLC) - this program is designed to create a rich, flexible and respectful learning environment where the teacher, parent and child are partners working together to develop and support their child’s education.
